What a FAT narrative covers
- Identity and configuration — model family, serials, frequency (50 or 60 Hz), voltage, fuel configuration, hours if new-surplus.
- Visual and mechanical integrity — preservation state, coupling alignment checks as applicable, enclosure and skid condition, obvious shipping risks.
- Controls and protection sanity — HMI navigation, trip logic demonstration where safe, I/O mapping against drawings.
- Documentation pack — drawings, certificates, preservation logs, punch list with owners and due dates.
FAT vs SAT vs “we ran it once”
FAT proves the package in a controlled factory or yard environment before logistics risk accumulates. SAT (site acceptance) proves the installed plant with real BOP, fuel, and interconnect. Marketing videos of a unit spinning are neither. USP&E commissioning themes on live EPC pages include load bank, protection, and performance proving — those belong in the contract definition of done.
Inspection commercial posture (fleet language)
Indicative ex-works pricing, when listed on flagship inventory, carries confirmation after NDA and project qualification.
Linking FAT to EPC and O&M
- Write FAT witness rights and document deliverables into the supply or EPC contract.
- Send engineers who understand protection and packaging — not only commercial observers.
- Close punch items before shipment or escalate with dated waivers.
- Feed FAT lessons into site commissioning procedures and SmartPower / UpKeep data pathways where O&M follows.
- Keep one accountability chain from FAT through COD — Extreme Ownership.

Frequency and packaging notes for FAT planners
Confirm 50 Hz vs 60 Hz before booking flights — see 50 vs 60 Hz packages. Witness scripts should include frequency-related protection checks appropriate to the build. Packaging for export (preservation, container or skid integrity, lifting points) is part of acceptance when the unit will leave the bay for frontier logistics.
Document set that survives lenders and customs
When USP&E holds EPC accountability, those documents flow into the commissioning dossier and then into O&M baselines. SmartPower monitoring and UpKeep CMMS themes on live pages work better when the as-built identity of each genset is unambiguous. Unique inventory of 2000 MW+ new and surplus turbines and reciprocating stations only helps if each accepted unit is traceable.
Field lessons that belong in the FAT script
- Verify frequency and voltage nameplates against the purchase schedule before any run demonstration.
- Photograph lifting points and enclosure seals that will be stressed in export logistics.
- Confirm spare parts kits listed for first-year O&M are physically present or on a dated PO.
- Record software/firmware versions where controls are digital — silent version drift creates SAT fights.
- Agree which punch items are ship-hold versus site-closeable under written waiver.
Common questions
Does USP&E publish guaranteed FAT performance numbers for FX-45?
No.
Is FAT required for inventory new-surplus units?
Serious programmes specify appropriate witness and documentation even when iron is already built. Exact scope is project-specific.
Who attends FAT?
Owner engineers, lender advisors when required, and USP&E technical staff when USP&E holds supply or EPC accountability — coordinated through contact.

Why owners choose USP&E
USP&E is a full-service engineering, EPC and O&M company, not a broker. One team designs, builds and runs your plant, so nothing falls between contracts.
Racing a go-live date?
Tell us your load, fuel and timeline. A USP&E engineer will come back with options for New Gas Turbine Generators projects, not a sales pitch.
